The name Neira is the popular derivation of Lira which was the basic monetary unit in most parts of the Middle East during
the Ottoman era. Lira originates from the value of a Troy Pound (Latin Libra) of high purity silver. The Neira was used as a
trade value long before the Indian Rupees were used as an official currency in Kuwait. The selected name “Neira” directly
represents finance and yet it retains the history and culture of Kuwait’s society.
